Preparing Your Site for Sauna Delivery

Before your new Timberglo Sauna arrives, it’s important to ensure your site is ready. Proper preparation will guarantee a smooth installation, extend the life of your sauna, and provide a safe, level foundation.

Foundation Requirements

Your sauna must be placed on a solid, level surface that can support its weight once assembled and in use. We recommend one of the following options:

Concrete Pad

  • Pour a reinforced concrete pad slightly larger than your sauna’s footprint.

  • A thickness of 4–6 inches is recommended for stability.

  • Make sure the surface is level to avoid unnecessary stress on the structure.

Gravel Base

  • Excavate the area and fill with 4–6 inches of compacted crushed gravel.

  • Ensure the gravel pad is level and drains well to prevent water pooling.

  • This is a cost-effective and durable option, particularly for outdoor setups.

Deck

  • Wood deck is not recommended for wood burning saunas due to fire risk

  • If deck is solid underneath and could support the weight of an electric sauna, it may be an option for a foundation for your sauna

Accessibility for Delivery

  • Confirm that there is a clear path for delivery, wide enough for a skid steer to bring the sauna to your chosen spot

  • Remove any obstacles (fences, branches, or debris) that could interfere with access.

  • ** If the area is not accessible to deliver the sauna in place, we do offer a white glove delivery and set up the sauna in place. Please contact us for more information.

Other Considerations

  • Drainage: Choose a location that won’t collect standing water.

  • Spacing: Allow enough room around your sauna for ventilation, maintenance, and comfortable use.

  • Orientation: Consider positioning your sauna to take advantage of views, sunlight, or privacy.

Once your base is prepared, our team will handle the delivery and setup, ensuring your sauna is ready to enjoy within hours.

Wood-Burning Sauna Safety & Placement

If you’ve chosen a wood-burning sauna stove, there are additional safety considerations to keep in mind when planning your sauna site.

Safe Distance from Buildings

  • Your sauna should be placed at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from your house, garage, or any other structure.

  • Before determining the location for your new sauna, check with your house insurance company to determine exactly how far away from your house or dwelling the sauna needs to be placed

  • This distance helps prevent fire hazards and allows proper ventilation for the chimney.

Chimney Clearance

  • The chimney must extend high enough to vent smoke safely and meet local building/fire codes.

  • Ensure there are no overhanging branches, rooflines, or combustible materials near the chimney path.

Fire Safety Precautions

  • Place your sauna on a non-combustible foundation such as concrete or gravel.

  • Keep a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby when the stove is in use.

  • Regularly clean the chimney to prevent creosote buildup.

Local Building Codes

  • Always check your local fire and building regulations before installing a wood-burning sauna stove.

  • Some municipalities may require permits or inspections to ensure compliance.

By following these guidelines, you’ll enjoy the authentic warmth of a wood-fired sauna while keeping your home and family safe.

Electrical Requirements for Electric Saunas

If you’ve chosen an electric sauna heater, it’s important to have the proper electrical wiring in place before delivery. This ensures your sauna can be installed smoothly and is ready to use right away.

The requirements are 240 volt with a 40 amp breaker.

What You’ll Need to Do

  • Hire a licensed electrician to run the appropriate wiring to the location of your sauna.

  • The electrical work should be completed before your sauna arrives so that setup is not delayed, otherwise we can put your sauna in place and your electrician can hook it up after

Using Our Electrician

  • If you’d prefer, we can connect you with our trusted electrician to handle the setup.

  • A custom quote will be provided for this service, as costs vary depending on distance, installation complexity, and local electrical code requirements. This ensures your sauna meets all safety standards and is installed properly from the start.
